A native of Phoenix, Rick, as he was better known, was born February 23, 1949, to his parents, Maxine Ratter, mother and Richard Gene Wagner, father. The cause of death was septic shock due to E-Coli bacteriemia.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Caralyn (Candy) Thompson (David), his brother Bob Ratter, his sister Susan Wagner. His sister Cynthia preceded him in death in 1980.
He is survived by his son, Richard III, his grandson Richard IV and his granddaughter Summer of Danville, Illinois. Rick is survived by his nieces Brittney Thompson of New York, Cynthia Ratter and Alex, Shandra Thompson of Phoenix. There is one we failed to mention: his special Companion dog Dude.
Rick was born and raised in Phoenix, attended Phoenix schools, remaining very close and caring to his grandparents, Irene Smith and Jack Smith and Bill Wright preceded him in death.
He served in the Vietnam War driving heavy duty trucks loaded with ammunition and fuel to the front lines. In Vietnam he was exposed to the Agent Orange Pesticide which left him with diabetes. Rick was an avid fan of the NASCAR races and every year he was at the Country Thunder event in Florence. Rick was never one to complain no matter how much pain he was in. He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends. We know that he is with our Heavenly Father in a better place where he joins his sister Cynthia and his grandparents.
